The epitaph is used for the commemoration of the Passion of Christ in Good Friday. After the procession the Epitaph is placed in the center of the temple for the worshippers to pass under the epitaph and it is considered a very pious habit. In the morning of the same day the Liturgy of the Royal & Great hours takes place and at noon the Descent form the Cross Vespers is realized. After the priest having blessed the worshippers the epitaph is placed into a wooden box, which represents the Christ’s tomb. This is the reason why we call it the Epitaph. Later the Epitaph is placed in the altar until the Ascension Day.
